X-Men 3: Last Stand
Ok, the review of X-Men 3: Last Stand after the cut to keep from putting spoilers out where you can just stumble across them….I mean I need you to work for it just a little bit, don’t I.
But before the cut I will say this because it is very, very important:
STAY UNTIL AFTER THE END CREDITS HAVE ROLLED!
There, I have done my part to make sure that you get the full movie experience.
Also, SPOILER WARNING, DO NOT READ FURTHER UNLESS YOU ARE THE KIND OF PERSON THAT WANTS TO HAVE THE MOVIE SPOILED FOR YOU….Or if you have already seen it and wish to comment and toss in your two cents worth.
You have been warned....
So, the review:
Over all, a very good movie, about a b+ to A- range. It did a good job with dealing with the whole “what would you do” type story, even though it borrowed bits of plot from the Whedon’s “Astonishing X-men” comic. That aspect played out mostly with Angel and Rogue. Each making choices that made sense, and right for those characters.
The Stan Lee cameo is in the first 5 minutes of the Movie if you are looking for him.
Scott Summers and Jean Grey dieing is not that great of a loss to me, since I have grown very weary of those characters. That said, *how* Jean died was perfect really, and I can’t think of a better way of doing it story wise.
Magneto and Professor X showed why I both like and loath these two Characters. The two scenes at the end with them were perfect examples of why I feel this ways about them. That and Magneto’s callous dismissal of Mystique shows why I dislike him, and the end where Xavier takes over the guy in a coma’s body show’s why I dislike him, the ends justify the means. Though it did make me want to have had a bit more of the ethics class scene so we could see if Xavier was being a Hypocrite or not.
Lots of good Colossus, Wolverine, Kitty Pride *glee*, The Beast, Rogue and Storm scenes. Also, I can see that Halle Berry must have demanded more screen time with this movie and she was very good anytime she was on. Hopefully this will purge the taste of Cat Woman out of her mouth.
Ok…Vinnie Jones as Juggernaut was bloody brilliant! He is great in anything he is ever in, and he is great here for the small part that he had. But then I have been a Vinnie fan since “Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels.” It looks like he has two up coming movies that will be interesting: An new Carry On Movie and Filthy War were he gets to play the war criminal Arkan.
Lastly, for the CoH players out there, Was I the only one wishing that the Sonic powers worked liked they did for Callisto?
Were you sitting there watching Iceman (Ice/Ice blaster) and Pyro (Fire/Fire blaster) thinking that one of them should have taken Air Superiority?
Were you sitting there comparing AT notes as you watched the big battle at the end?
Were you thinking “Oh, Look! A Claws/Regen Scrapper Vs a Spines/SR Scrapper” in the forest?
Yes, I am a geek, neener!

I have mixed feeling about this one. I have liked the X-movies, as they are as close to the comics as any movie has ever been, anyway.
A few things:
Rogue: I've always liked the character Rogue, in the comic...the movie version however..was a joke. They could have had her with powers she absorbed from someone, just like the comic, and still done what they did with her. Although , her taking the cure made perfect sense, since she had no life to speak of, without anything but the draining powers.
OK, I saw in the credits, several of the characters from the comics...Callisto, Psylocke, etc. Which was who? Did they actually name any of them in the movie? Other than Maddox, and Juggy, I didn't catch any names.
As far as Xavier taking over the "mindless" guy, since it was stated that the man had no higher brain functions..was born without them, in fact...Xavier taking over the body wouldn't really be a moral issue..since he didn't displace anyone in doing so. It was basically a human shaped bag of meat, until he moved in.

Hiya Sam, and welcome. :)
Yes, which is why I would have loved to have heard what Xavier had to say on the subject of that guy.
Yes, they did not do enough with Rogue through out the Series, which is why it made perfect sense for the character in the movie to do what she did.

I loved the movie but I did NOT stay through the credits, so I missed that last bit you guys are talking about. Clearly I need to watch it again. I read a review that hinted something big happened after the credits but I thought it was Magneto's powers coming back, ie the cure wasn't permanent, just a temporary power-dampening that wore off.
Loved Juggernaut. "Keeps me face pretty."
Loved the way Kitty dealt with Juggy.
Hated the treatment of Rogue in the movies. She started strong in the first one and then they just kicked her to the curb.
Loved the killing of Cyclops and Jean Grey, I hate those two.
Uhm. Yeah, I was totally thinking, "Oooh, spines vs claws!" during the forest fight, hehe.

I had problems with the whole Xavier/Jean backstory. I don't recall any foreshadowing there, and the "Oh, and Jean is really a split personality that I've had to mentally block off" bit just felt too "hey, let's pull a plot complication out of our ass" to me.
I wasn't comparing ATs, but I was thinking about Combat Jump a lot, and how I wish that flying characters could pick up others.

... I actually thought "Claws/Regen Scrapper" and "Spines/SR Stalker", since the one guy's attacks really only did much when he surprised Logan. :)
And yeah... I thought it out that far. :P

And a funny comment from the LJ CoH group:
At the end The Brotherhood of Evil Mutants looked like Teh Worst PUG Evar.
The scrappers run in ahead of the group and get themselves killed. As soon as the last one's down, the blasters fire off all their AoEs, draw aggro, and die. Then the controllers come back from bio/food/phone breaks just in time to be overrun.
Meanwhile, the tank has run off on his own to click the glowie.

Perfect.
Yep, now that you mention it, that is about right.
Whereas the X-men are the some folks that have been working together for a long time and know how to work together as a team, and they had a fairly impressive Controller in the persons of Storm and Kitty Pride.
