Thoughts on the next 270 plus days…
Is the Main Stream Presses love affair with Tool McCain going to continue?
90% chance.
Will Tool McCain need to go farther right to gain support of the GOP “base”?
Toughy. He might have the Nomination sewn up without the GOP base, but he may choose a “certified” Conservative to shore up his right wing issues, or he may go “left” to try and woo the Moderate’s in the country. It will be interesting to see which way he goes.
Possible VP choices:
Condi Rice 40% - if he goes right
Colin Powell 40% - if he goes left**
Tommy Thompson 30% if he goes left
Lieberman 45% - neither left or right
Huckabee 45% - if he goes right
Ward Connerly 45% - If he goes right
9ui11ani 51% - if he goes right.
** 1 war criminal, and the guy that tried to cover up My Lai and knowingly lied to the U.N. about Iraq….sounds like a good paring to me.
Will Ron Paul go for an independent run for the White House?
Well, he has to be doing something with all that money he's getting from stolen Credit Cards and White Supremacists other than moving a blimp around the Country.
60% chance.
Some “Crazy White Guy with a Gun” murdering Clinton, Obama or McCain?
Sadly, I suspect that there is a really good chance of this happening.
51% chance of happening, and rising.
Jar-Jar Binks and Emperor Palpatine Bush/Cheney Attacking Iran?
Or, provoking them to defend themselves like the Israeli’s tried to do last year with Syria, or a new version of the Gulf of Tonkin?
Very good odds, at least 60%. The bonus would allow them to declare a state of “Emergency”.
UPDATE:
Dave makes a point about the cancerous growth on the body politic that is Nader. And really, the fault for that lays at the feet of the Dem Leadership and its ignoring of and general disdain for the left wing of the Democratic Party and its continual drive to be more like the GOP (well, adopting the GOP talking points and such at least) at all costs.
So, Nader running as the Green Party Presidential Nominee?
75% chance of this happening.
Though, the GOP Pioneers that financially backed him last two times might not this time since it will help McCain and they hate McCain. Plus, if Clinton wins it will be the return of the “Clinton Rules***” for the Press and that will make the GOP Pioneers *very* happy.
***The Clinton Rules are the complete opposite of the Bush Rules. When the press is working under the Clinton Rules, any rumour, no matter how insane, will be headline news, even more so than the “Missing White Woman” news stories. FAUX NEWS and Drudge will be working over time to feed the Noise Machine so that Clinton will not be able to Govern, or will be forced right just to get things done.
Comments
If he's smart, he'll jump left. I strongly suspect, given his performance thus far, he'll try to swing right, probably losing more from the "indy" vote than he actually gains from the "party base."
I heard some serious betting on Huckabee as veep candidate. Plausible, but something as liable to energize the Dems as Hillary would be to energize the GOP.
To my mind, McCain's age (and frailty) are huge issues; whoever he comes up with as veep has decent odds of sitting in the big chair before it's all over. That makes his running mate decision a lot more important than usual, and makes it less likely he'd go for Rice. Powell is actually a possibility, esp. to counter the woman/black Dem candidate.
Low chance of Paul running indy; Nader's a bigger chance/risk (God help us).
My biggest assassination worries are if Obama gets the nod. I don't think either Hillary or McCain are as likely targets.
Gulf of Tonkin? Actually, increasingly *un*likely as the days roll by . I think their support among folks who could actually make such a thing happen continues to dwindle. It would also favor McCain, esp. as an October Surprise, and just don't see Bush/Cheney doing that. But it's by no means an impossibility.

Regardless -- I'm not looking forward to the next 270+.

Which is I had both Powell and Connerly on the list. Connerly would shore up the right wing and counter the Dem's choice.

Never heard of Connerly.

**boggles**
Dude, you lived in California, I would have thought that you would have heard of him. Anyways, Ward Connerly.

I left the state right about the time he was becoming prominent. Hard to believe.
