This Gawker post does have some merit
While I am looking forward to both the Iron Man and the Hellboy 2 movies, they do have a good point on making movies about Comics that were…say…more cultish in following but much fun to read.
They suggest Love & Rockets, Thunderbolts, Potential, and 1602. Well, I read two of those at least and Thunderbolts is Ellis, so I am sure it would be lots of fun as well. But yeah, Movies about Love & Rockets and 1602 Would be levels of happy geekiness.
1602 would even make a great TV show since it had so much potential, but I am not sure as to what Gaiman’s level of commitment to a 24 episode a year show would be.
And Thunderbolts (after reading the entry on it) does sound like a neat comic and cool idea.
Oh well, we can dream can’t we. :)

While I am second to none in my appreciation for Gaiman, and I enjoyed 1602 (I bought the freaking thing hardcover) buckets, I think it would be a horrible choice for a movie -- being, essentially, recasting of classic heroes in a 17th Century setting, getting much of its oomph from knowledge of those heroes in the present. Assuming that the average movie-goer is going to no *nothing* about these folks except, perhaps, some of their names, that sounds like a recipe for disaster.
Thunderbolts, however, would be excellent in a post-9/11 kinda way. You could change all the characters and as long as you stayed true to the basic story -- former super-villains (mostly) tapped to work for the Feds to bring in unregistered superheroes -- it could be excellent.

True, 1602 would be a pure Fanboy movie....but we wants it. ;P
Yeah, as I said, reading the Wikipedia page on Thunderbolts, it did sound like a cool concept and very fitting in todays world and the whole Marvel Civil War thing.
