Talk about freaky, Margie brought this up as something Chipotle should do last night when her brother Erik Talked about how Chipotle was doing odd things with their Salsa's because of the Tomato scare.

The Denver-based chain known for its hefty burritos is pledging to use a set amount of local produce at each of its more than 730 restaurants around the country - when produce is in season.

This summer, Chipotle is purchasing 25 percent of at least one produce item for each of its stores from small and midsize farms located within about 200 miles. Those purchases could include lettuce, onions and peppers.

Margie must be in tune with the world.

This would be laudable if they were doing it just for the 'green' reasons that they're trying to leverage into local consumption of their product, but the cynic in me suspects that corporate motives are at heart here.

As fuel prices soar, local agriculture becomes far more affordable than the mass warehoused and distributed food we usually see in restaurants.

I've never been gladder to have so many local farm markets in Wisconsin. While usually somewhat pricey, the costs at these markets now matches or are lower than corporate grocery costs. Go, go, little farmers!

Very true, but mostly I just was amused/amazed that I was reading in the paper what MK was saying just 10 hours earlier.
